From the teacher:
"With this proposal I hope to acquire a high power vacuum pump, a vacuum jar, an led light, and an electronic bell. With this apparatus, my students will be able to prove that light travels through space and sound does not. My students will use the vacuum pump to take all of the air our of the vacuum jar. As they do this, they will observe that they can still see the light in the jar but they cannot hear the bell (even though it is still ringing). They will have observable proof that sound cannot travel through space. How awesome is that!?!
I am confident that this experience will leave an impression on my students that they will remember for their entire life. If you tell a student that light travels through space and sound doesn't they may or may not remember. But if the student actually observes this, they will never forget it. Please help make this experience a reality for my students."
