Project Info
IISME teachers who have just spent 8 weeks during the summer working in an industry or university research lab are eager to transfer their experience to their students. But many Bay Area schools are under-resourced and have virtually no budget for equipment or supplies with which to conduct stimulating and inspiring lab experiments and activities. Teachers often spend hundreds -- even thousands -- of their own money to equip their classrooms. A Physics teacher at Oakland Technical High School needs infrared thermosensors to teach a unit about heat transfer in a model home. The Girls' Middle School in Mountain View needs a digital camera to create images and video for a student website showing how to build a "Newton Scooter" vehicle powered by Newton's three laws. A science teacher at Mission HS in San Francisco needs funds to help her students prepare posters, PowerPoint presentations and demos showcasing their Earth Science projects.
These are just three projects teachers have undertaken as a result of their IISME Summer Fellowship, with grant support from generous funders like you.
