Project Info

FAVL's goal is to assist the rural poor of Africa by helping create village libraries.

FAVL is dedicated to increasing access to reading material and other information in rural villages in sub-Saharan Africa. FAVL-supported libraries serve all members of the village community; both schoolchildren, adult learners, and other persons committed to reading. Being able to read educates the mind and expands the imagination. Most children, particularly in rural areas, have little access to books.

It takes $4,000 to establish the library by refurbishing a local building, training the librarian and stocking with books. Another $1,000 equipts the library with solar panels to generate electricity so that the library can remain open at night.

FAVL is dedicated to the on-going support of its library by training its librarians, continually stocking their shelves and paying the salaries of those who maintain them.
