On March 24th, a good samaritan found a 3-week old bunny abandoned in her back yard. The bunny was in shock and unable to move. She has several apparent cat or some other animal bites around her leg and on her ears. As Haven volunteers looked at her ear injuries part of her ear actually fell off. She could not use her front leg as it was completely infected and too swollen to move. Volunteers drove her to the first emergency clinic that handled exotics. Camille was x-rayed and received supportive care. The vet was not able to conduct a full examination, and recommended rest, treatment for shock, fluids, pain medications and antibiotics. A few days later when her condition stabilized, the leg injuries were addressed. Camille was in surgery for over an hour - the lengthy procedure was required due to the extensive infected areas in her shoulder, neck, lymph system and leg. More X-rays were taken and luckily showed her tiny bones are not broken. Camille has a complex series of animal bite wounds which caused severe infection. She is staying at the main medical site of The Rabbit Haven, where she receives much needed care and love, as well as pain medications, antibiotics, and oxygen support as needed. Her wound required daily flushings for many weeks, and she is still on antibiotics, but she is well on the road to recovery and can now run and play. Her bills are already over $600.
