Project Info
Jose could tell that his children, David, Christina, and the oldest, Javier, were going to be big-time animal lovers ever since they could walk. David would make nests out of twigs, string and cloth every summer and leave them by his back stoop, just in case a baby bird fell out of his nest, and David needed to rescue him. Recently, because Christina’s family couldn’t afford to care for a dog or cat, she begged her dad for a pet fish, who now swims contentedly in a bowl by the front door.
David, Christina and Javier all qualify for free lunch at their school. All three children are involved in one activity that they can all do together, despite their age differences: Animal Pals Club. It is at HSSV’s kids club that these children can meet and learn how to touch, pet, and play with all different kinds of animals, many of which, they would not be able to see up close and personal in any other setting. Animal Pals Club also provides an opportunity for Jose’s children to meet kids from their community, from other communities, and to practice skills such as teamwork, compassion and respect for all life in a safe and supportive environment.
David told his dad that he met new friends at Animal Pals, and not to tell his sister or older brother that he loved doing the art projects at Animal Pals because he thinks he wants to become a veterinarian and an artist when he grows up!
It costs $15 to attend each Animal Pals Club class
HSSV offers a reduced price to parents who sign their kids up for 6 or 12 consecutive classes.
6 class price: $75
12 class price: $150
For 12 classes for all 3 children, the cost is $450. But if you can't help with the whole tuition, just help with a class or two!
