Project Info
I am a mechanical engineer. I have a friend with a son who was born with spina bifida. I recently built a hand trike for this boy out of used bicycle parts. I would like to take it to the next level by building a motorized tracked wheelchair. His father and grandfather are avid outdoors men. By having a motorized wheelchair with tracks Tucker will have the opportunity to go out in the woods with them. I have a design in mind. I will buy parts off ebay where possible. I estimate that I can buy parts for about $1100 and build it in my shop. I found a couple manufacturers that build chairs for $10,000 to $25,000 or more. I teach robotics to young people. This project will be built with the help of these HS students. They are excited about the prospect of learning and building this wheelchair because they know how much it will bless the hearts of this family.
