Send a Prisoner a Dictionary
Books to Prisoners has a DOUBLE MATCHING GRANT for any funds raised towards our biggest expense, postage. Between now and March 31, our goal is to raise $12,500, which will be matched by $25,000 from a local foundation.

Project Info
Books to Prisoners is a charity staffed totally by unpaid volunteers, and 75% of our 2009 budget went to one fixed expense: postage.
With media mail it costs us $2.50 to mail a prisoner a dictionary, the single most frequently requested book. We have enthusiastic volunteers, and our offices are stuffed with donated books and wrapped packages just waiting to be mailed.
Your donation of $25 guarantees that 25 prisoners will receive a dictionary, or one of their other requests——a car repair guide, a mystery, a history textbook, a biography, or perhaps a book on how to draw or how to play chess.
But this year your donations will mean 3 times as much. A local Seattle foundation will give us a double matching grant of $25,000 if we meet our goal of $12,500 by March 31.
Your donation of whatever size will help us fulfill Books to Prisoners' mission: expanding literacy and opening minds.
