Humane Society Silicon Valley never euthanizes animals for space or time! But we have a NEW program! After an animal (dog, cat or rabbit) has been in HSSV’s care for more than 100 days, these animals are automatically funneled into HSSV’s Homeward Bound program. The Homeward Bound program is a sponsorship program that covers the adoption fee for these special animals in an effort to get them into their new homes and started on their new lives as soon as possible. Typically, the animals in the program don’t have any special needs or requirements – they may just have been overlooked. Animals in the program have special promotional materials that draw attention to them.
In our first weekend of the Homeward Bound program, we had 16 animals in the program. Within 48 hours, 11 of those animals had been adopted – and not a single one has come back to our care because of a bad match or a spontaneous adoption! They are all still in their new loving homes – thriving on the attention of their new families. The Homeward Bound program is expensive for HSSV to sponsor and we are asking for help from the community of animal lovers out there! Homeward Bound adoption fees are $175 per animal.
This is an ongoing program with different animals rotating into the program when they hit their 100 day mark! Our goal is to decrease the number of days that these special animals are in the shelter.
