PROJECT
Providing Basic Education in Roatán, Honduras
In the beautiful island of Roatán, Honduras, the Education Commission estimates that 75% of the children in the island did not attend school. These un-enrolled children account for a significant percent and represent a major concern as they may be prone to illiteracy, child labor and abuse decreasing their opportunities to integrate into society.
Many children do not have the access to basic school supplies, uniforms and books. To respond to this urgent need, the School of Life (SOL) International Foundation is providing assistance in academic scholarships, school supplies and is initiating a program to provide bilingual books. SOL assists students in reading, writing, math, and the sciences.
Through your donation, you will help our goal to provide a child with a fundamental right! To have access to education!

Project Info
The SOL International foundation has been operating in Roatán since 2005 and has developed programs in the areas of Art and Music, Athletics, Education Assistance, Reading and Language. SOL also has a partnership with a local low income Health Care provider known as Clinica Esperanza in the community of Sandy Bay in Roatán. We have set up the first ever baseball little league, currently made up of 5 teams and an all girl basketball team. We also provide a safe place for children in Sandy Bay and provide creative afterschool activities.
In particular, our short term goals for the Basic Education Assistance are:
1. Provide $5,000 of school materials, supplies and mentoring to teach children how to properly read, do basic math and write.
2. Provide $5,000 of bilingual books for children. With our partnership with First Books, books can be purchased at very low rates.
3. Raise $10,000 to provide academic scholarships in private schools.
