Project Info

Gentle Carousel uses tiny, show quality miniature horses as therapy animals. At only 27-29 inches tall, these horses work with children right inside hospitals and bedrooms.

The goal of this project is to pay the cost of monthly therapy horses visits to the Ronald McDonald House in Gainesville, Florida. The visits include the cost of photography, the cost of the stuffed toy horses left for each child (they look like the real horses that visit) and the cost for transporting the therapy horses.

When a tiny horse walks in, challenges are forgotten for a few special moments. While a larger, more powerful horse may seem daunting to a young child, an instant bond seems to form with these little therapy horses.

Gentle Carousel Therapy Horses are highly trained and able to walk on different floor surfaces, walk up steps, move around hospital equipment and use elevators. They feel comfortable in new situations and adapt to sounds and sights that would frighten most of their equine friends.

Before the horses come into a room with children, a special poem about magic blue eyed horses that "live over the rainbow and through your dreams" is read. The poem talks about horses sprinkled with fairy dust who live where memories last forever. Gentle Carousel Therapy Horses always arrive sprinkled with “fairy dust” sparkles and they all have rare bright blue eyes. When the visit is over, a stuffed toy horse is left behind on the bed. There is always a photographer available to take photos for the family.
