Project Info
Lucy arrived at P.E.R.N. with a load of other feedlot horses with a horrible cough, caked in mud, hair falling out in clumps, feet that looked like pixie slippers and most of her ribs showing. As soon as she arrived we could see this little pony was very troubled.
Lucy came from a feedlot, on her way to be slaughtered. We don't know her history, but do know she must have been seriously abused. Lucy is a pony and is very cute. Lucy looks like a mini Clydesdale with her summer coat a shiny bay, white socks, big white blaze, and even a white patch on her belly. We think Lucy is between 12 and 14 years old but don't know for certain. Poor little Lucy is extremely fearful of people and is certain people mean her harm.
We usually halter train our horses pretty quickly and then move on to more advanced training. Due to Lucy's history she hasn't come far. Lucy has worked with a couple of visiting trainers and even attended a special training clinic. Each day at mealtime we ask Lucy to come and take a little food from us before feeding her. We have made some progress, but even with all this help Lucy is still fearful of being touched. It will be a long time before Lucy can be considered adoptable.
Normally our goal is to train and place our horses so that we can make room for another in need. Our space and funds are extremely limited. The majority of our funds comes from the placement of our horses. Because Lucy needs long-term care we're hoping we can find others with a love for horses who will help fund Lucy's maintenance until she is ready for a new home. If for some reason Lucy is never suitable for adoption, we will continue to care for her. Now that Lucy is part of our family, we will continue to provide a safe and loving home. Our goal right now is to raise enough funds to care for Lucy for the coming year.
Your donation will provide Lucy food and basic veterinary care. Helping to fund Lucy's care will mean we have room for another promising horse needing rescue.
Thank you for considering Lucy!
