Project Info

In June 2008, founder of Building for Generations, Cory Ybarra, interviewed families of the elderly and disabled concerning their needs in Chincha Baja, Peru, a rural area with few amenities for persons with special needs.

Building for Generations then presented a proposal to the mayor based on our assessments of what would best serve the community: a therapy center and an attached workshop/multipurpose room.

The mayor donated a piece of land and agreed to write the salaries of therapists into the budget for the upcoming year. In collaboration with an architectural teacher at the University of Lima, the plans have been drawn.

The cost to build has been estimated at $13,000 for phase one of the project. This includes two small therapy rooms, an office and one large occupational therapy room. We are $5,000 away from our goal to finish the building and to resource it.

Families are currently traveling as far as two and a half hours by bus one way for the services this facility will offer. There are approximately 139 people with special needs in Chincha Baja and nearby Tambo de Mora based on our most current count.

Your support will truly make a difference to these communities recovering from the effects of the 8.0 earthquake of August 2007.

100% of your donation goes directly to this Building for Generations project. Thanks!!
