Send a girl to Girls' Leadership Camp!

Camp Sojourner, Girls' Leadership Camp (a project of Resources for Human Development)

Girls’ Leadership Camp is an exciting new program for Philadelphia girls, with a focus on team building, leadership development, appreciation of the natural environment, and creative arts. We believe in helping girls to be strong, confident leaders who reach for their own dreams and are committed to making a positive impact on the world around them.

We need your help to allow girls who might not otherwise be able to afford it and experience they will never forget. It costs $500 to send one girl to camp - can you help?

Camp Sojourner’s 2008 session will run from Sunday, August 3rd through Sunday, August 10th. Our summer program is located in the Pocono Mountains at the New Jersey School of Conservation, about two and a half hours away from Philadelphia (www.csam.montclair.edu/njsoc). Buses will be provided to take girls up to the camp at the beginning of the session and to bring them home at the end of the session.

At camp, girls will:

* Make new friends
* Learn about nature and the environment
* Participate in traditional camp activities such as swimming, boating, hiking, team-building, and campfires, as well as creative and performing arts such as singing, dancing, drawing, painting, drumming, sewing, and wood-working
* Eat meals family-style in our dining hall, where the entire camp community gathers three times a day to share food, sing songs, and hear important announcements
* Sleep in a modern wood cabin with eight other campers, one junior counselor, and two adults

Teen Leadership

We believe that in order for young people to grow as leaders, they must be given authentic opportunities to act as leaders.

That is why GLC’s Advisory Board is comprised of a third youth. Girls are the core of Girls’ Leadership Camp. They have equal voting power with adults, and give their input on every major decision made.

Teen Leadership Development activities year-round include leadership and communication workshops, retreat weekends, non-profit management training, public speaking, event planning, committee work, and internships at the camp office.
