The original injury to her left rear femur, sometime in the past year, was a very painful break with sharp bone ends jabbing into her muscles and tissue. The bone ends are visibily rounded now, which means it is not currently painful, but she cannot put any weight on it and the leg dangles. There is darkening of the head of the femur which means the calcium in the bone is dissolving as she cannot put weight on the leg. The vet states that the reason the leg hasn't healed, besides lack of treatment, is because she obviously has been kept pregnant and has had poor health."If we can repair this "SWEET as PIE" rescue, she will have a forever home in a flash!" says her foster Mom.

Hello everyone! I wanted to give you all an update on Buttercup. Her
situation was very critical, but because of your generosity so far, we
decided to go ahead with the surgery. We hope you will continue to
urge your friends to give, so we'll be able to pay the medical bills. We are only $70 away from our goal.
The good news is great! Her foster Mom reports that "there was NEVER an utterance of complaint from this sweet, very person-oriented puggle (pug/beagle mix). Immediately after getting home from surgery, while still on antibiotics and taking rimadyl for pain, she clearly expressed that she felt better by waggin her tail so hard that she would seem to fold herself in two!! CLEARLY, she knew that her leg had been FIXED!" She occasionally puts her weight on it, but if she's in a hurry (and often she is!)she still keeps it aloft, skipping along on all threes. Buttercup was so named because she's the prettiest shade of butter yellow you can imagine. Impeccably mannered, she has never offered to have an accident in the house, and she sleeps with me in the big dog bed! She is definitely an alpha female, but mostly really sweet about it. She will snuggle in my lap to watch tv."

I hope she gets on that leg soon...hopping around on only 3 can be terrible for her knees. It sounds like she's a sweet dog...and I'm so happy she got the surgery :) You guys do great things over there

From Buttercup's Foster Mom - Julie

Words fail me to express my gratitude to your wonderfully generous
organization and the efforts on Buttercup's behalf. She's totally INTO this lovely almost=spring weather and is using her leg more every day. It's a joy to watch her 'discover' her 4th leg again.as she chases balls and trundles about with 3 foot long limbs.yes, 3 feet long.she loves the fallen limbs!

PLEASE tell all in your great organization how very grateful I, Buttercup's blessed foster mom, and Buttercup, the intrepid puggle, are for your caring..for proving without reservation that LOVE is a verb.
