Art IS Therapy!

Alternative Homes for Youth

The goal of our Art Therapy group is to utilize the creative process in supporting the traumatized youth we work with in bringing new insights into their challenges. The curriculum is dynamic and themes will address: personal identity, self-awareness, boundaries, processing feelings, positive self expression and their own victimization of trauma, to name a few. The art therapy groups will be grounded in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy. It is an amazing healing opportunity for these youth. And, we need art supplies in order to run such a group. Hence, our project!

This group always requires the use of art supplies. In art therapy, the art that the client does is their communication medium. Unfortunately, our agency can not afford to purchase the requisite items to run this group, which has often left the responsibility on the therapists themselves to purchase the art supplies for group. As you can surely guess, a therapist working in a non-profit residential treatment center certainly does not make enough money to be providing all of the needed materials. And yet, the power of the art therapy for the kids is so great, we all continue to gather materials and keep pushing on with the group as it is crucial to the well-being of the traumatized youth we are trying so desperately to help.
Below is a listing of what donated money will purchase:

Paper - 18" x 24" 80lb white drawing paper - quantity = at least 250
sheets

at least 2 sets (24 assorted brushes) but would be great to get 4

The goal that we have, at our agency, is to do whatever we can to heal the youth we work with from their trauma experiences. A little bit from you can go a long, long way. Please join us in helping to heal these children and bring their smiles back. Thank you very much for your thoughtfulness, time, and consideration.
