These are just a few of a child’s favorite things to experience at YMCA Campo Alegre each spring. For some campers, it is their first time spending the night away from home. For others, it is their first time among the towering redwoods in the Santa Cruz Mountains.

For combined donations of $5,000, a new child each year can go to Campo Alegre at no cost to his or her family, through a 100% subsidy - forever!

For four days, children ages 7 to 15 enjoy a fun-filled time at resident camp, building their character, learning life skills, and making new friends during their spring break from school. Many of the campers would not have experienced camp without the financial support of YMCA contributions from caring people in the community. For most kids, the cost to attend Campo Alegre is greatly reduced or free.

Bank of the West helped to establish an endowment fund in 2007 for YMCA Campo Alegre, a resident camp experience the YMCA has operated for more than 20 years to youth from low-income households in Santa Clara Valley.

Your contribution will be matched by the challenge fund and will impact children today and for generations to come. The earned revenue distribution from the fund will provide a new child each year an outdoor camp experience at Campo Alegre, located at YMCA Camp Campbell in Boulder Creek, California.

How Campo Alegre adds value to the lives of young people:

• Exposes them to a caring community that: imparts acceptance and a sense of responsibility; teaches social skills; facilitates friendship; and promotes teamwork.

• Enables them to attend Campo Alegre at no cost or at a greatly reduced cost.

• Provides a vital educational opportunity that encourages outdoor exploration, discovery and physical activity.

• Provides a safe and nurturing environment with trained, compassionate adult role models.

• Provides an inspiring setting where campers learn life skills and values that will help them become healthy, well-adjusted adults.

• Builds awareness of a YMCA network of resources beyond camp that can support them, such as: financial assistance for wellness and after school programs; safe, meaningful and fun places to spend time, and a place to volunteer and seek future employment opportunities.
