Project Info
The Robotics Program offers a continuum of educational services for youth that includes a participatory group process where youth provide input and feedback into a design of a device by working with mentors. Our volunteer mentors serve as positive role models and support our youth throughout the program. Youth learn to develop their leadership style, learn project & time management skills, and public speaking & presentation skills.
Youth also gain a sense of what it takes to develop an effective team as they enter the Tech Challenge, an annual robotics competition held at the prestigious Tech Museum of Innovation. Each student team is assigned a Tech Challenge Mentor, an engineer working in the high tech industry or an engineering student, to support and guide their team. This program inspires students to be creative, innovative, and to find solutions to challenges through critical analysis. By bringing volunteers from our community as partners in education, the Third Street Community Center provides an energetic and highly competitive learning experience for youth. Many of our students return for multiple years.
Services are provided on Saturdays for 3 hours and for 6 hours each Saturday in April as students prepare for the Robotics competition.
