Project Info
Léeme (Read to Me) is an early literacy program for parents and their pre-school children. Léeme strengthens the bond between parents and children, helps parents to develop skills to read with their children, and prepares children for school by laying the foundation for children to become good readers.
Using a curriculum developed by GFS and published by Scholastic, Léeme focuses specifically on the development of four crucial early literacy skills: oral language skills, listening skills, and knowledge of concepts of print. The program is evaluated using a pre- and post-evaluation tool administered to the parents and a separate pre- and post-evaluation tool administered to the children.
The goals of the program are to:
* Increase children's interest in reading at an early age
* Strengthen children's early literacy skills
* Increase parents' participation as partners in their children's early literacy education
* Strengthen the bond between parents and children
Results:
* 75% of parents participating in the program increased the amount of time they spend reading with their children each week
* 75% of participating children increased their knowledge of print concepts by 25% by the end of the six week program
