The YWCA of Silicon Valley’s Rape Crisis Center needs to raise $4,000 to supplement state and federal funding reductions in order to provide an “emergency fund” for victims of sexual assault or sexual abuse. This emergency fund would help provide the following services to victims:
• Hotel vouchers for one to two nights for victims when it is unsafe to return home
• Transportation for victims who do not have their own vehicle to get them to and from follow-up medical exams, crisis counseling, and court hearings
• Snack foods and food gift cards for victims after receiving their sexual assault forensic exams at the hospital
• New underclothing for victims whose clothing is booked into evidence
The YWCA’s Rape Crisis Center has been providing crisis services and prevention education in Santa Clara County since 1973. All Rape Crisis Center services are provided free of charge to victims of sexual assault or sexual abuse and their loved ones. We strongly believe that our services help restore a sense of dignity and faith in humanity for victims that have experienced severe trauma. Together, with your support, the goal of the Rape Crisis Center will be realized: prevention of violence, assistance in recovering from the traumatic aftermath of sexual assault and the promotion of safety, freedom from abuse, and mobility for all people.
Additional information:
Sexual assault and sexual abuse do not discriminate. Sexual violence is not biased in who it affects as it crosses all boundaries of socio-economic status, education, ethnicity, race, religion, geographic location, sexual orientation, and age. Anyone can be a victim of sexual assault or sexual abuse. In fact, 1 in 3 girls and 1 in 6 boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18. Abuse, sexual violence, and relationship violence is a substantial physical and emotional health issue in our community as it has detrimental short and long term health consequences.
With proposed budget cuts of nearly $150,000 for our Rape Crisis Center this year, we acknowledge the vital role that our community and individual supporters play in helping us meet the needs of Santa Clara County.
