About our Charity

Founded: 1955
The mission of Friends Outside is to empower and assist families, youth, prisoners, and ex-prisoners to overcome the immediate and long term effects of incarceration and to act as a bridge between those we serve, the community at large, and the criminal justice system.

We have 4 Key Programs:
- Steps Ahead Program; works with children 0 through 5 and their caregivers who have been impacted by incarceration. We provide in-home visitation and work with parents and children on education, development and parenting techniques.
- Youth Program; works with youth ages 9 to 17 who have a history of familial incarceration. We provide mentoring, after school programs, summer camps and case management as well as one-on-one help for youth in Juvenile Hall.
- Family Services; provides emergency food and clothing to families and individuals as well as crisis intervention for families dealing with the arrest/incarceration of a loved one.
- Jail Program; works at the local County Jail, providing books, glasses and referral services to inmates. The goals of the Jail Services Program is to advocate for inmates serving in the County jails and to provide a much needed link to the outside world, particularly with their families.
