About our Charity
Founded: 2005
(FSR), founded in January 2005, develops, implements, and manages community-based programs and services that promote economic independence and self-empowerment for Afghan refugees in the San Francisco Bay Area, and war widows in Afghanistan.
As a secular, apolitical 501 (c) (3) nonprofit public benefit California corporation, we are committed to developing social practice, social change, and social justice through capacity building, outreach, research, and education.
FSR is unique. We are a volunteer-based organization, and have a staff of over forty volunteers that run our programs in the U.S. and Afghanistan.
Nearly all day-to-day expenses are subsidized by local SF Bay Area donors. This includes office rent, utilities, telephone, office supplies, postage, website hosting, insurance, professional services, computer equipment, telephone and fax equipment, office furniture, and vehicles.
We employ the Internet extensively. This allows us to keep our overhead costs extremely low. Our programs, in both the U.S. and Afghanistan, are being managed though virtual business processes.
In October 2006, we received our first major funding through a three-year U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement grant to assist Afghan refugees in Fremont. Oakland-based East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) is our managing partner.
95% of your donations go toward direct support to people in our programs in the U.S. and Afghanistan.
