The After School Academic Program (ASAP) is a 10-month program curriculum for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders who are academically at-risk and live in San José. Our program teaches mathematics, science and technology to 45-50 students during the academic year. Core services include: (a) daily academic assistance including homework completion, tutoring, and reading comprehension, (b) biweekly project-based learning activities that alternate between science/math projects and physical activity at a local park, (c) bimonthly visits to the Tech Museum of Innovation, and (d) year round mentoring by San José State University students, volunteers and staff who serve as positive role models for students.
The Robotics Program is an intensive 4-month curriculum for 6th, 7th, 8th & 9th grade students. Our program teaches project management, teambuilding and leadership skills while engaging students in basic to intermediate level engineering, physics, internet research, and other technology-related activities. Youth participate in the Tech Challenge, an annual Robotics competition. The Tech Museum of Innovation, a long term partner, guides our curriculum.
The Adult Education Program offers English as a Second Language Classes & a Computer Mentoring Program for adults with no computer experience and/or minimal to no English. Our curriculum is broken down into a series of 3 levels consisting of 6-week sessions providing adults the opportunity to learn new skills at a pace that fits their work and family schedules. Classes are taught in the evenings and students enrolled in computer classes have the opportunity to earn a refurbished computer upon successful completion.
