Healthier Children in Punjab's Slums

Charity: Developing Indigenous Resources. Categories: Community Education Environment Health International . Help families in an Indian slum keep their children healthier. Preventable illnesses took a heavy toll on the poor and uneducated residents of Janta Colony, a slum of Chandigarh, India. With the help of Community Health Promoters trained by DIR, local people are developing the knowledge and skills to improve their own conditions. By learning to prepare nutritious foods, getting their children vaccinated, cleaning up trash dumps, and obtaining health and sanitation services, Janta families and DIR have cut the childhood death rate nearly in half. $3800 will enable DIR to train one Health Promoter to work with 200 families for one year.

Bring Hospital Beds to Rural Hospital in Ethiopia

Charity: Streams of Life International. Categories: Health . Help us bring badly needed hospital beds to a desperate facility! The Assosa Hospital in western Ethiopia cannot afford to provide hospital beds for their patients. If a bed is available, the frame is most likely broken and mattresses are ripped and covered in maggots. If a bed is not available, patients will sleep on the floors. Would you want this for you or your family? Help us make a difference! It costs $325 dollars to provide one bed to the hospital. What can you do bring hope and life to rural Ethiopia?

Ending Future Violence Against Women and Children

Charity: Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence. Categories: Children and Youth Social Services . $1,000 enables 18 victims of domestic violence to obtain Temporary Restraining Orders that provides them with a sense of safety.

By helping victims obtain restraining orders, the orders put a batterer’s violence on the record and threaten criminal prosecution if the batterer disobeys the order. Statistically, when a restraining order is implemented, the victim’s risk of lethality drops dramatically.

Protect the Rights of Families with Children

Charity: Lambda Legal. Categories: Children and Youth Civil Rights Human Rights Social Services . There are roughly 250,000 children in the United States being raised by
same-sex couples. But the rights of gay and lesbian parents vary widely among states. Only about half of all states permit second-parent adoptions by the unmarried partner of an existing legal parent, and in other states, the courts have ruled against such adoptions. In many cases, state courts have terminated the parenting rights of mothers and fathers simply because they are lesbian or gay. This leaves tens of thousands of children without legal ties to the parents who love them and want raise and protect them. This project will help fund Lambda Legal's broad-based civil rights efforts to ensure all families and children are treated equally.

Support a Girl's Scholarship to School

Charity: Room to Read. Categories: Children and Youth Community Education International . Room to Read’s Room to Grow Girls' Scholarship Program has an immediate and direct impact on the lives of thousands of girls in the developing world. An education provides security and support to girls who often grow up in very uncertain environments and empowers them to make informed life decisions. A solid education beginning in the early years is the key ingredient for improved status for women, which provides a ripple of positive effects throughout society.

Through this project, you can fund girls' scholarships in Cambodia, India, Laos, Nepal, Sri Lanka or Vietnam. These long-term, holistic scholarships make it possible for a girl, who would otherwise not have access to an education, to attend school through the secondary level.

You can fund a one year girl's scholarship for $250 or a ten year girl's scholarship for $2,500.
